It is often said that you can tell a genuine smile by
observing the eyes. Usually when a person smiles with their eyes it is a
pleasant sight. What is a smile? Oxford dictionary has defined a smile as a pleased,
kind, or amused facial expression, typically with the corners of the mouth
turned up and the front teeth exposed.
I would argue that a smile does not need
to reveal the front teeth but that the eyes should also smile. There is also what we call a half smile and
the oxford dictionary has defined a half smile as a slight or insincere smile. Hence,
if the eyes don’t smile then one would conclude that one gave out a half smile.
Growing up, there used to be a hanging in the living room with a poem, author unknown that spoke about "smile". The poem talked about "A SMILE" I made it a habit of reading it every
day and I made sure to cram every word. It said, a smile costs nothing, but
gives much, it enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who
give, a smile take but a moment, yet the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
It went on to narrate the benefits of a smile. in business, friendship and at
the home. It also described the value it has when shared.
If and when you smile next time make sure to smile with your
eyes. Let the facial expression of a smile come from deep within. Enjoy the
moment of giving your smile away.
This made me smile... with my eyes!
